Mexican Dips & Salsa
Once considered an exotic food in American, guacamole has become a standard at most every Mexican restaurant and fast food joint, not to mention a standard dip at every family barbeque. Avocados are the main ingredient in guacamole, which also includes tomatoes and salt. Many people add limejuice for flavor and the additional added benefit that it keeps the avocado from becoming brown from exposure to the air. You can also add onions and garlic and many also add a variety of peppers to spice it up.
Mexican Guacamole Recipes
A quick version of guacamole is to just add salsa to a few mashed avocados. Each family across the southwest probably has it's own version of how to make guacamole, but they all start the same - smashing the avocados!! Most people use a fork in bowl to accomplish the 'mashing' but feel free to break out the food processor if you really want a smooth guacamole. Depending on the number of people you are planning on serving, choose from 5 to 7 ripe avocados. Choose your method of 'mashing' and get started. Once you are satisfied with the consistency, add limejuice, onion, tomato, and peppers of choice. Mix the ingredients together and add salt to taste. Set out with some tortilla chips and watch your company enjoy.
